White Bim Black Ear

White Bim Black Ear is a touching story about the fate of a loyal and honorable dog, Bim. A white setter with black ears lives a happy life with his owner, Ivan Ivanovich. Ivan is a middle-aged writer who enjoys hunting. In many ways, he seems like the personification of Turgenev’s great collection of stories, Sketches from a Hunter’s Album.

Sadly, Ivan is taken ill and is hospitalized with hearts problems. Separated with his owner, the lovable Bim goes to Ivan’s neighbor. However, she hates dogs and doesn’t want Bim in her apartment. And so, Bim escapes and beings looking for his beloved master. In the big, wide world of people, Bim will experience many a hardship and adventure.

Definitely consider watching this heart-wrenching movie. It was widely applauded in its time and even competed for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. In many ways, White Bim Black Ear was an early precursor of and inspiration to Lassie.
