Yermak’s Treasure

Yermak’s Treasure is a recent popular children’s film about two children’s attempt to find a long lost Siberian treasure. Think of this movie as the equivalent of National Treasure for Russian kids.

Kostya, An 11-year-old schoolboy with a love for archeology discovers an ancient chest that contains an old treasure map of Russian legend. The supposed long lost treasure belongs to none other than the cossack leader, Yermak, who conquered Siberia during the reign of Ivan the Terrible.

The epic story of Yermak’s adventures are legend in Slavic folklore, and the treasure is no doubt stupendous. Unfortunately, it’s just Kostya who’s after the gold. His map is instantly stolen by bandits. Fortunately, though, Kostya still has a photograph of it as well as a secret key – the existence of which the bandits have already guessed.

So, Kostya departs on a fabulous journey. Once, that is, he has convinced his parents that he’s going off to visit his grandmother. Along the way, he teams up with a young girl, Masha, whose interest in riddles and adventures will surely come to good use.
