Synopsis

This piercing Soviet drama tells the story of two unfortunate strangers who, by the will of fate, become one family.

Lovers of Soviet comedy will also very much appreciate the acting of Yuri Nikulin in a role completely different to any he played before.

When the Trees Were Tall is all bout the the life of Kuzma Kuzmich Iordanov. His life is all going downhill after the death of his dear wife in WWII. Unable to bear his grief, he begins to drink, sell all his possessions, and lose his friends.

One day, Iordanov agrees to help an old lady bring her washing machine into her home. On the way, she talks about Natasha, a lonely orphan girl living in her native village. And so, Iordanov decides to find the girl and impersonate her father.
