The Return is an exquisite film of mythical proportions by acclaimed director, Andrei Zvyagintsev. It was his debut feature film and is celebrated for its gorgeous cinematography and landscapes. The film tells the story of two young brothers who are all of a sudden reunited with their father. Their father hasn’t been home for 12 years and all they really know of him is a decade-old photograph.
The reappearance of this man – their father – turns the boys’ lives upside down. He removes them from their quiet, normal life to take them on a camping holiday on a remote island in the middle of a lake. There, the boys will face a serious of dark challenges that transform them into men. They learn that only they can take care of themselves; no one else will do this for them.
