Synopsis

The Hyperboloid of Engineer Garin is a rip-roaring communist, sci-fi adventure from 1965. It is based on the novel by Aleksey Tolstoy. The film’s story begins in 1925 in Leningrad. Vasily Shelga, a detective, is investigating the mysterious death of the engineer, Peter Garin, in his own home.

The shrewd Vasily immediately suspects something is amiss. The murder of the famous inventor is too smoothly arranged.

As it turns out, Garin faked his own death to flee the country. Worst yet, he took with him his latest deadly weapon – the hyperboloid. And with its help, he captured a gold-rich island in the Pacific Ocean. Now, with his endless gold supply and his deadly weapon, Garin becomes a world dictator. Only the courageous revolutionaries led by detective Vasily can resist him now.
