Othello

Othello is a film adaptation of the Shakespeare play, featuring Sergei Bondarchuk playing Othello himself and his wife, Irina Skobtseva, playing Desdemona. This Soviet version from 1956 closely followed after the Orson Welles adaptation of 1952.

This Soviet Othello, features splendid acting, especially from the Bondarchuk-Skobtseva pair, beautiful camera work, and a fabulous score by the great Georgian composer, Aram Khachaturian. Lovers of Shakespeare and Soviet cinema alike should adore this film.
