what going on?

Falling Leaves (Giorgobistve) is a gorgeous 1966 Georgian film directed by Otar Iosseliani. It was first released in Moscow theaters on June 24, 1968 – two months before the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia. As such, this prophetic movie in many ways predicts the sharp change in socio-political climate of the Soviet Union in the late 1960s. The country was no longer experiencing the July Rain of summer, but instead was witnessing the Falling Leaves of autumn (see what I did there?).

In Falling Leaves, a young, idealistic graduate leaves university to work at a winery. He soon discovers the enterprise is corrupt and producing sub-par quality wine. Disillusioned, he sabotages the production cycle and thereafter awaits his punishment for his actions.
