Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel is a 1979 Estonian sci-fi film based on the novel of the same name by the Arkady and Boris Strugatsky brothers. The original book and film title is Hukkunud Alpinisti hotell in Estonian and У погибшего альпиниста in Russian.
An anonymous letter brings a police inspector out to the Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel in the Alps. When he arrives, he discovers him being called for was a false alarm. Nevertheless, he decides to stay there for the night.
However, later there is an avalanche which separates the hotel from the outside world. From then on, mysterious and strange things star to occur – including deaths and supernatural events.
