Once upon a time “Cherry Town” was the name of a small village near Moscow. Today, however, thousands of Muscovites live there and it feels like an extension of the capital.
In one of Cherry Town’s new social housing districts, a love story unfolds. The young demolitionist, Sasha, meets the architect, Lida, in the local history. He falls in love at he first. Lida, however reacts coolly to his advances.
Watch this wonderful musical, Cherry Town, to find out how this romance ends. And, along the way, enjoy a Soviet futuristic re imagining of Chekhov’s play, The Cherry Orchard. For while Chekhov’s story ends with the eponymous Orchard’s removal revealing the futility of aristocratic ways and lack of meaning in the bourgeoisie, Cherry Town celebrates the transformation of once bucolic villages to working class paradises.
